Further evidence shows the effectiveness of Matrix therapy for the common musculoskeletal condition of Plantar Fasciitis (PF) which is associated with difficulty in performing daily activities. The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of a single session of Matrix Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis.

Conclusion: A single session of Matrix Therapy treatment was found to be effective in reduction of pain, improved skin temperature and functional activities in patients with plantar fasciitis.

We normally recommend a course of 3 treatments for this condition whereby most patients are completely pain free and have no further problems.

Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS), commonly known as Shin splints – is a painful inflammation of the tibia, often as an overload syndrome in athletes.

For many new runners, “Shin Splints” is often a common injury. Shin splints accounts for 10-15% of all running related injuries and is more common in less experienced runners as normally their bones may not have yet adapted to the stresses of this high impact activity.

Many varied painful stress disorders apply to the tibia and the surrounding musculature and occur when the body can not heal properly due to repeated muscle contractions and tibial stress brought on by the intensified training.

We normally see more runners present with shin splints at this time of year. Marathon and half marathon runners are simply clocking up their mileage too fast, suddenly increasing their training intensity, or failing to schedule rest days into their programmes.

Like most overuse running injuries, the onset of shin splints is multifactorial and may include training errors and various biomechanical abnormalities with some people being more at risk of developing shin splints than others. They include:

New to running or running history of < 5 years.

High BMI

Females

Prior history of shin splints

Prior use of orthotics

Take the recent case of Anna a 35-year-old, very ambitious marathon runner who was repeatedly thrown back in her training schedule by painful inflammation of the tibiae (shin splints).

Just over a year ago, due to too many sprints and jogging in her training programme Anna ended up with painful inflammation of both shins. She had tried all the usually prescribed methods to rehab, but somehow this time nothing was really working for her. So she was extremely relieved when she discovered the practice of Matrix-Wellbeing.

Immediately after receiving her first treatment with the Extrazell® BMS Matrix Therapy she felt that her muscles were starting to release and her healing process had finally progressed. After just a few more sessions she noticed a very big positive change during her sporting activities.

She is very grateful to Maggie from Matrix-Wellbeing for supporting her on her path to recovery and helping in achieving her athletic goals. “She treats my whole body with an holistic approach, a lot of respect and fully utilizing her many years of experience with BMS Matrix therapy, which was essential for me to achieve a successful treatment outcome“. said Anna

When an athlete gets to fully understand the true effectiveness of BMS Matrix Therapy at the practice of Matrix-Wellbeing, they can finally realize a really positive change with fully relaxed and elastic musculature.

Remember, it can take several weeks for the tibia to heal using BMS Matrix therapy however, the earlier you seek advice from a BMS Matrix therapist professional the better and quicker you return to running or everyday life.

And finally, the best means of prevention is to progress slowly with both volume and intensity of training. Try to run on flat, soft surfaces (grass, sand) initially and it is always a good idea to vary your training routine and continue some softer surface runs to decrease the loads on your tibia.

Discovered by the Viennese professor H. during his work in the 1940’s & 1950’s he published his theories about the ‘Permanente rhythmische mikrobewegungen des warmblüter-organismus (“Mikrovibration”)’ [Permanent rhythmic micro-movements of the warm-blooded organism (“microvibration“)] in ‘Die Naturwissenschaften’ The Science of Nature journal in 1962.

This important work, hardly considered today, is beyond doubt one of the most important physiological facts that the micro-movements of the skeletal musculature makes a significant contribution to the functioning of the cardio-vascular system and the lymphatic system.

These microscopic movements, produced by alternating contracting and relaxing by a small amounts of muscle fibers (2-3%), take place continuously (24/7), even when our body is at rest.

At rest, the frequencies of micro-movements in an normal adult are within the range of around 8-12 Hz.

Often referred to as physiological tremor, they can be considered a kind of tremor, similar to that occurs with hypothermia of the body, but with a much smaller amplitude, These micro-movements are far too small to be directly visible or palpable, but can easily be detected anywhere upon the body surface with suitable mechano-sensors. The only time we visibly see these movements is when a body is cold and it shivers to increase blood flow and raise the core temperature and especially in the sport of weight lifting when the body reaches its physical limits and as the cells are starved of oxygen the weight lifters musculature starts to evidently shake all over.

Starting from the skeletal musculature they spread throughout the body and lead to periodic micro-stretching and compressions of the bodily tissues. These micro-movements exert an uninterrupted pumping and suction action upon the lymphatic capillaries.

In addition to their direct effect upon the lymphatic system, micro- movements also play an essential role in maintaining the micro-circulation; therefore the mass transfer of all the body’s required nutrients and waste materials between tissue cells and the capillaries and venules of the circulatory system.

The Russian Prof. V. Nazarov called these micro-movements the peripheral heart. They can be considered as a microscopic facsimile of the human heart known as the skeletal muscle pump.

Undoubtedly, these micro-movements actions upon the extracellular matrix, known as Mechnotransduction, also help maintain the elasticity, permeability, and other physical properties of the extracellular matrix, that we are slowly realizing are so essential for all healthy cellular functions.

Also due to the piezoelectric properties of proteins such as collagen, which are essential components of the extracellular matrix, the micro-movements produce alternating electrical fields in the environment of virtually every cell of the organism. This applies not least to cells of connective tissue and generally to tissues associated with skeletal muscle. Unfortunately, the effects of this bioelectric effect have not been sufficiently investigated or studied as yet.

The Extrazell BMS Matrix Therapy is the first truly successful attempt to fully exploit this phenomenon of musculature’s micro-movements for physio-therapeutic purposes. Although the discovery of these micro-movements has inspired a number of modern approaches to vibration stimulation of the tissues over the years, virtually all except the Extrazell BMS Matrix Therapy operate at frequencies outside the natural human physiological range of 5-30 Hz and more importantly most do not follow Prof. Nazarov’s original works by applying the micro-movements correctly and effectively horizontally to the musculature’s fibres.

Understanding the important role the Extracellular Matrix (ECM) plays in our health and wellbeing helps to unlock the mysteries of lower back pain, as we know fascia forms a large part of the ECM and realizing that within this space it contains a vast number of nociceptors, these are the sensory neuron that responds to damaging or potentially damaging stimuli, these are the nerves that signal the lower back pain to your brain.

BMS Matrix therapy works to actively relax the muscle and fascia to alleviate the source of the pain within the ECM which is normally the root cause of non-specific lower back pain

Matrix Therapy has been independently proven to work by non other than TÜV-Süd

The aim of the study conducted by Dr. Bernhard Dickreiter ( Orthopedic Joint Clinic Gundelfingen ) and the occupational physician Dr. med. Olaf Otto ( Präventic GmbH ) was to have presented a study as the first methodologically proven proof of the effectiveness of matrix therapy.
The aim of this therapy study, which was commissioned by BKK Gesundheit in 2009/2010 at TÜV SÜD Life Service, was to create a database for the experience gained to date with regard to efficacy.
The focus was also on the criteria of side effects, possible effects on the inability to work and the sustainability of the matrix therapy.

Study conclusion:

It was concluded in November 2011 that the matrix therapy study conducted by TÜV-Süd under the direction of Dr Olaf Otto and Dr Bernhard Dickreiter, reported on the long-term effects of matrix therapy that was applied to a collective of 418 chronic pain patients where all other forms of physical therapy were unsuccessful, in order for the patients to have qualified for this study.

Over 70% of these patients experienced a reduction in pain to less than 50% of baseline levels after the fifth treatment.

In most patients, this effect was sustainable. Even after one year, most patients were able to do without any chemical painkillers. The efficacy and cost-effectiveness of matrix therapy could thus be demonstrated in a collective of chronic pain patients.

Conventional beliefs and medical science tell us that:

We all perceive and feel pain differently. We all know that Pain is an uncomfortable feeling or sensation that tells you something may be wrong. It can described as being steady, throbbing, stabbing, aching, pinching, etc. Sometimes, it’s just an irritation, like a mild headache.

The most common causes of muscle pain are tension, stress, overuse and minor injuries. Systemic muscle pain — pain throughout your whole body — is more often the result of an infection, an illness or a side effect of a medication but can be due to what is known as Fibromyalgia.

What is the function of pain? Pain forms part of an evolutionary and behavioural role. It is part of the body’s defense system, producing a reflexive retraction from the painful stimulus, and help’s protect the affected body part while it heals, and avoid that harmful situation occurring in the future.

This is Matrix-Wellbeing’s approach to pain:

Here at Matrix-Wellbeing we see pain as the indication that the cells in your body tissue are in desperate need of oxygen!

As damage has occurred on a cellular level due to swelling, inflammation, stiffness, tightness, spasticity after injury, surgery or over-exertion, your cells do not get enough space to oscillate freely. This severely restricts the flow of fresh oxygen from the red blood cells to the site of congestion/injury.

The Mitochondria, also called the power houses of the cell, do not get enough oxygen to produce energy and this leads to further tissue and muscle contraction, resulting in restriction of movement and pain.

Unfortunately, if the cells starving for oxygen do not receive help on time, they wither and eventually die. Then further complications often set in, as the tissues struggle to survive without oxygen.

Matrix Rhythm Therapy provides the required oscillations between the physiological frequencies of 8 to 12Hz. This is the frequency that synchronizes with the body’s Extra Cellular Matrix to
re-establish the disturbed rhythm at the cellular level. The therapy increases the oxygen supply to the cells by improving the microcirculation and thereby restoring the energy production.

The immediate effect can be seen as relaxation of the inflamed tissue, muscle, and fascia. This relaxation is long-lasting and is maintained by the metabolic process at the cellular level which is then regulated and the oxygen supply to cells is improved.

Clients can often experience the immediate reduction of pain during the session itself. Once the pain is reduced and the soft tissues are relaxed, wellbeing can then be maintained by further infrequent treatments and routine exercise.
